In a new study, a simple exercise survey revealed patients who get at least 150 minutes of exercise per week have much lower odds of heart disease, cancer, diabetes and more.
Getting at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise per week can lower your risk of 19 chronic conditions, a new study finds.
The study included more than 7,000 patients who filled out a short survey about their exercise habits during their annual wellness exam.
Those who reported the highest level of physical activity had significantly lower odds for chronic conditions such as heart disease, cancer, respiratory disease and diabetes. And those who got little to no exercise faced higher odds.
The researchers say health care providers should consider using ‘The Exercise Vital Sign’ survey with all their patients.
“This two-question survey typically takes fewer than 30 seconds for a patient to complete, so it doesn’t interfere with their visit. But it can tell us a whole lot about that patient’s overall health,” according to the lead author.
The lead author says supporting inactive patients with exercise prescriptions and community health specialists must be made a priority.
