Listening to Podcasts can Transform your Learning Experiences!

Here is a scenario to think about…

Have you found yourself driving your car, listening to your favorite musical play list and thought to yourself, “I am tired of listening to music” or “This music is not improving my mental well-being?”  Sure, everyone loves music and everyone has his or her favorite tunes, but too much music can become monotonous and not mentally engaging.

Dive into the world of podcasts!

Podcasts have become a common form of daily information consumption across the world. In fact, it is estimated that 7-10% of people listen to a podcast every day. Podcasts are a great way to consume media and learn up-to-date information while driving in your car, sitting in your office, or working out.

In fact, podcasts can increase learning and information retention for students in any discipline. In 2020, it was estimated that 39% of men and 36% of women listen to podcasts on a monthly basis. Compared to 2017 where 27% of men and 21% of women were frequent podcasters. The difference in listeners in three short years exceeds 12-15%.

Research suggests that podcasts can increase learning if they explain relevant information, communicate effectively, incorporate humor or storytelling, repeat key concepts, and deliver in short less than 30-minute episodes. However, there is some popular educational podcast that engages with their audiences for more than 2 hours!
